How much to share?

As I look at my life in terms of whether I'm living carefully or boldly, one thing that stands out is my reluctance to openly express my views. This encompasses a wide range of views, but most of them are either controversial or potentially controversial. From my political vote, to my views on abortion, to my views on sex, I prefer to keep my mouth shut.
Am I being wise or a coward?
There are arguments either way, but I'm not going to get into those. Everyone has an opinion and arguments rarely convince.
Where do I want to be public in my support? What causes are worthy of me making a definitive stand?

  1. This is the thing that keeps me from writing at all sometimes, to be honest. Even maintaining a view that blunt expression is preferable to tactful silence, I censor myself so as not to rock the boat. But in expressing one's views, we have an opportunity to refine them and allow them to change where they are flawed, by virtue of being exposed to counterpoints.

  2. I think it depends on who needs to know what. And what value is there in sharing? I keep my mouth shut about many things unless I sense that voicing my mind will be helpful in some way.

  3. As a wannabe fiction writer and blogger, I wonder about the same things. This is what one literary agent said recently on a related subject. I'm not sure I agree. I think there's something in anyone who wants to express themselves through writing that makes it impossible to shut up.
